Future Development Trends of Charging Stations(1)

2024.07.11

01

Intelligence

Intelligence is an important development trend for charging stations in the future. With the advancement of intelligent technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and 5G, charging stations will achieve interconnectivity with electric vehicles, bringing users a more convenient control and management experience.

In addition, technologies such as cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence will enable charging stations to have more advanced functions,

such as intelligent identification of vehicle types and required electricity, automatic selection of the best charging mode and electricity price, thereby improving charging efficiency and user experience. These intelligent upgrades not only improve the utilization rate of charging stations, but also drive innovation and development in the entire industry.

02

Vehicle pile interconnection

Vehicle pile interconnection is a key trend in the future development of charging piles. With the rapid growth of new energy vehicles, the charging station industry is facing many challenges, such as low utilization rates and long cost recovery cycles. To address these challenges, the concept of vehicle network collaboration has been proposed, aiming to utilize the energy storage properties of electric vehicles and the bidirectional charging

and discharging functions of charging piles, adjust electricity loads, improve electricity quality, and consume renewable energy.

This not only helps to reduce grid pressure, but also brings benefits to car owners. But currently, this feature is mainly suitable for users who use it less frequently.

03

Wireless charging technology

Wireless charging technology is an important development direction for charging piles in the future. This technology achieves a pile free design by installing a wireless charging device below the parking space and combining it with the receiving device at the vehicle end to complete charging.

Users only need to park their vehicles and activate charging and payment operations through the mobile app. Wireless charging technology has the advantages of high safety,

convenient use, and easy installation. For example, in 2017, a German mainland company launched a wireless charging network system with an efficiency of up to 90%, while in 2019, BMW's system was able to fully charge the car battery within 3.5 hours, achieving an efficiency of 85%.

04

Generalization of charging

Generalization of charging is a key trend in the development of future charging stations. In a market environment where multiple types of batteries and voltage levels coexist, charging devices in public places must have broad adaptability and be able to match charging characteristics with various battery systems of electric vehicles.

This requires the charging system to have multiple battery charging control algorithms to ensure compatibility with different batteries. Therefore, in the early stages of commercialization of electric vehicles, relevant policy measures should be formulated to standardize the interface, charging standards, and protocols between charging devices and electric vehicles, thereby promoting the process of universal charging.

05

Interconnection industry

Interconnection is a major trend in the future of the charging station industry. The interconnectivity of information directly determines the utilization rate of a single charging station.

Therefore, charging station operators will break the current situation of their own business and enclosure development, and achieving interconnectivity has become a consensus in the industry.

With the rapid development of the charging market, many enterprises have entered the industry, including charging pile manufacturers, life service platforms, travel companies, map software, and payment platforms. The future interconnection of the charging industry is not limited to operators and between piles, but will also extend to the entire new energy vehicle industry chain, achieving information and data interconnection of the entire new energy vehicle industry, charging pile industry, travel service industry, maintenance industry, etc.

06

Integrated charging

Integrated charging is an important development trend for future charging piles. This trend stems from the demand for miniaturization and multifunctionality of subsystems, as well as the improvement of battery reliability and stability. The charging system will be closely integrated with the energy management system of electric vehicles, integrating multiple functions such as transmission transistors, current detection, and reverse discharge protection. This integrated design not only reduces the demand for external components and achieves a more compact volume, but also provides more layout space for other components of electric vehicles. This optimization not only reduces system costs, but also improves charging efficiency and helps extend battery life.
